Le automobili fanno male: inquinano l’ambiente con le loro emissioni nocive e danneggiano la salute umana. Inoltre, come ci spiega Paola Pagliaro, uno studio del Centro internazionale per la ricerca sul clima e l’ambiente (Cicero) ha evidenziato che le auto hanno una forte incidenza sul riscaldamento globale. Per tutti questi motivi, alcuni attivisti dell’associazione ambientalista Terra! hanno organizzato a Firenze un’azione di protesta contro l’inquinamento da CO2 da auto ed in particolare da SUV. La scorsa notte sono stati piazzati 40 cartelli stradali di divieto di accesso ai SUV nei 20 varchi di accesso alla ZTL della città di Firenze. “Vietato l’ingresso al centro storico per i veicoli con emissioni di CO2 superiori a 120 g/km”, “Vietato l’accesso ai SUV”, “Vietato respirare!” cosi recitano alcuni dei cartelli posizionati dagli attivisti di Terra!.
Al centro della protesta c’è il mancato controllo, da parte del Comune di Firenze, dell’entrata dei SUV nel centro storico della città. L’associazione Terra! ricorda, infatti, che esiste un’ordinanza comunale che, dal 2005, vieta il transito dei SUV nel centro storico. Daniel Moretti di Terra! giustifica l’azione degli attivisti affermando che
È in gioco il futuro di tutti noi. Il nostro governo boicotta il pacchetto clima europeo e in questo modo minaccia la salvaguardia del pianeta, la sicurezza e la salute degli italiani. Ridurre le emissioni di CO2 non è un lusso, è una necessità. I danni alla salute che ciascuno di noi pagherà per i cambiamenti climatici e le sue incalcolabili conseguenze economiche, saranno di gran lunga superiori ai costi di investimento richiesti per una maggiore efficienza energetica.
Terra!, inoltre, chiama i cittadini di Firenze a dare il loro contributo alla lotta all’inquinamento inviando una lettera ai parlamentari europei per chiedere loro una maggiore attenzione ai problemi ambientali ed in particolare si richiede di fissare il limite delle emissioni di Co2 delle automobili a 80g/km entro il 2020 e a 60g/km entro il 2025.
