Uno dei più terribili allarmi che tutto il mondo si aspettava, è stato finalmente lanciato. L’Onu nei giorni scorsi ha indetto una serie di conferenze stampa, tra cui quella più importante durante il forum mondiale sull’acqua di Instanbul, per mettere in guardia il mondo sul problema acqua.
Secondo la relazione delle Nazioni Unite, entro il 2030 almeno metà della popolazione mondiale sarà a secco, e questo creerà drammatici problemi. Il principale avverrà nei Paesi in cui l’acqua scarseggerà, quelli africani, in quanto non sarà possibile per decine di milioni di persone raggiungere le riserve d’acqua dolce che già ora sono parecchio distanti. Questo porterà ad un alto tasso di mortalità, e di conseguenza anche a guerre civili per il controllo dell’acqua, proprio come sta succedendo in Darfur, secondo gli ultimi dati presentati da Ban Ki-Moon.
La seconda conseguenza sarà il maggiore afflusso dai Paesi poveri verso l’Occidente, e di conseguenza ci saranno scontri sociali, problemi di clandestinità, aumento di violenza da una e dall’altra parte, ed infine un aumento della povertà. La colpa di tutto questo non va soltanto attribuita all’effetto serra che sta facendo sciogliere i ghiacciai (anche se una gran parte della responsabilità è proprio qui). Molto importante anche l’aumento demografico che, paradossalmente, continua a crescere proprio nelle aree più sfortunate del pianeta. Secondo gli ultimi dati entro il 2050 la popolazione mondiale supererà le 9 miliardi di persone, 30% in più rispetto ad ora, il che significa più persone alla ricerca di cibo e di acqua, ma meno risorse disponibili. Uno scenario apocalittico che sfocerà in guerre che diventeranno all’ordine del giorno.
Tutto questo è stato presentato al forum di Instanbul a cui accennavamo prima, in cui sono intervenuti capi di Stato, ministri dell’ambiente, organizzazioni internazionali ed esperti sull’argomento. A questi andrebbero aggiunti i circa 300 ambientalisti che, fuori dall’edificio in cui si teneva la manifestazione, protestavano per chiedere una maggiore attenzione verso questo problema e per cercare di difendere l’accesso all’acqua come bene di tutti, contro le multinazionali che vogliono privatizzarla in tutto il mondo. Paradosso dei paradossi, per disperdere i manifestanti che protestavano contro la carenza d’acqua, la polizia turca gli ha sparato contro con dei cannoni d’acqua.
