Dalla Francia una spallata alla Monsanto: bloccata l’espansione di uno stabilimento a Trèbes per “il superamento delle altezze regolamentari degli edifici in costruzione”. Il progetto potrebbe essere del tutto ridiscusso o comunque fermato a lungo, e i cittadini e gli anti OGM esultano: un bastone tra le ruote alla Monsanto, per molti, è sempre una gioia.
La gigantesca multinazionale Monsanto, colosso impegnato nel mercato delle sementi, degli OGM e delle biotecnologie che per la sua mancanza di scrupoli risulta senz’altro, a oggi, una delle multinazionali più odiate della Terra, riceve una spallata dalla Francia, che le blocca il progetto da 50 milioni di dollari per l’espansione di uno dei suoi più importanti in Europa.
Abbiamo letto la motivazione ufficiale del blocco: il superamento delle altezze regolamentari per gli edifici in costruzione. Ma in Francia sono asprissime le critiche alla Monsanto, accusata di produrre anche in tale stabilimento semi OGM, che in Francia sono vietati. Ciò ha dato vita a mesi di dure contestazioni, con cittadini francesi in strada. A seguito di ciò arriva la sospensione dei lavori decisa dal tribunale di Montpellier, che a molti suona (non senza ragioni) come una vittoria degli attivisti ambientalisti e anti OGM.
Non senza ragioni, dicevamo. Come ricorda Il Fatto Quotidiano, infatti, i sospetti della produzione illecita di OGM sono tutt’altro che infondati:
Nel gennaio 2012 un gruppo di militanti fece irruzione nella fabbrica, con giornalisti e fotografi al seguito. Trovarono sacchi di mais Mon 810 e riserve di Poncho, un insetticida della Monsanto, proibito in Francia e il cui principio attivo, la clotianidina, sarà vietato in tutta la Ue a partire dal prossimo dicembre, a causa dei suoi effetti nocivi sulle api.
Naturalmente, c’è anche qualche francese scontento, che vedeva nell’espansione del mega impianto la possibilità di nuovi posti di lavoro. Ma una cosa è certa: gli attivisti francesi non hanno alcuna intenzione di smettere di protestare contro l’odiata multinazionale.
