Istruire i cittadini è il passo più importante nel processo che sta investendo la società, e che ha come punto fondamentale la sostenibilità ambientale. E’ inutile che le istituzioni investano ingenti capitali per le forme energetiche pulite o le infrastrutture sostenibili se poi anche i cittadini non fanno la loro parte. Per questo motivo 19 Province italiane, le deputazioni e i consigli insulari spagnoli e i dipartimenti francesi associati ad Arco Latino si sono riuniti ieri nell’isola della Palmaria, vicino La Spezia, per firmare il patto dei sindaci.
Questo patto sostanzialmente riguarda una serie di programmi atti a rendere partecipe la cittadinanza delle problematiche ambientali e della tutela del territorio, in modo da responsabilizzarla a partire dalle scuole.
Contemporaneamente circa 200 studenti spezini hanno presentato il progetto Ambiente Futuro per cercare di coinvolgere anche i giovani in questo processo più ampio. Ma in cosa consiste?
Il progetto prevede attività specifiche che verranno svolte nel corso dell’anno all’interno delle scuole: la diffusione di pratiche eco-sostenibili come la raccolta differenziata dei rifiuti e l’utilizzo di prodotti eco-compatibili, l’organizzazione di escursioni guidate alla scoperta del patrimonio naturalistico e della biodiversità del nostro territorio, la realizzazione di un progetto “ecologico”, la partecipazioni ad eventi, convegni, mostre, seminari, tutti rigorosamente “green”

Tra i progetti proposti troviamo Europa 2020 di Gloria Rossi, amministratrice comunale di Sarzana, che dovrebbe sensibilizzare i giovani su stili di vita sostenibili, fargli sentire il “peso” delle loro azioni sull’ambiente nel tentativo di responsabilizzarli; ed il seminario dell’Associazione Arco Latino in cui molti rappresentanti delle istituzioni italiane e straniere hanno dibattuto sui temi del paesaggio del Mediterraneo, dei siti Unesco a rischio e su come fare per tutelare questo territorio.
Credo che compito delle pubbliche amministrazioni sia affrontare le sfide per uno sviluppo sostenibile dell’ambiente e del territorio, per garantire un futuro migliore ai nostri giovani. Bisogna fare in modo, attraverso tutti i mezzi a disposizione, di comprendere la problematiche legate ai cambiamenti climatici e alla produzione e consumo di energia, per acquisire consapevolezza dell’importanza del ruolo di ciascuno di noi nel diventare cittadini sostenibili
