La danese Crowne Plaza Copenhagen Towers ha aperto alla fine del 2009, giusto in tempo per il vertice sul clima delle Nazioni Unite ormai famoso. L’albergo è stato costruito per essere “uno degli hotel più verdi al mondo”, proprio in onore del vertice. La struttura è composta da 25 piani ospita 366 camere ed è stata la prima in Danimarca ad avere tutta l’energia fornita da fonti energetiche rinnovabili.
Da oggi, 19 Aprile 2010, il Crowne Plaza Copenhagen Towers farà di più: offrirà un pasto (di produzione locale) del valore di circa 30 euro, ad ogni ospite pagante in grado di generare un’ora aggiuntiva da 10 watt di energia elettrica.
A quanto pare nell’hotel sono presenti delle cyclette che, con una velocità di 30 chilometri orari (velocità media) per 60 minuti produrranno circa 100 W/h di energia elettrica. La potenza generata dagli ospiti attraverso questa iniziativa viene conservata in una batteria e reinserita nell’alimentazione principale dell’hotel. Un iPhone montato sul manubrio della cyclette ci dirà quanto gli ospiti hanno prodotto in tempo reale.
L’obiettivo è che, entro il prossimo giugno, questa tipologia di produzione elettrica sarà in grado di competere contro il sistema a pannelli solari dell’hotel, per vedere chi può produrre maggiore energia elettrica nello stesso periodo.
Ora, ovviamente si tratta di un espediente. Non è che l’hotel trarrà grande beneficio da 200 W/h di energia elettrica. Hanno già i pannelli solari che generano annualmente 170.000 kWh di energia (pari al consumo di 55 case danesi), con un risparmio fino al 90% sul raffreddamento e riscaldamento con un sistema a 100 metri sotto il livello del mare. Ma è una trovata pubblicitaria intelligente. Questo permette ai clienti abituali dell’hotel di consumare quanto producono e, speriamo, renderli più orientati verso il risparmio energetico.
Se la sperimentazione avrà successo anni si dice che l’InterContinental Hotels Group possa estendere l’accordo ad altri hotel Crowne Plaza. Il Crowne Plaza Copenhagen Towers è anche membro del Global Compact delle Nazioni Unite, ha ricevuto il certificato di Bioedilizia dall’Unione europea e la Green Key, e sta lavorando per diventare ad impatto zero.

Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.
