Queste e tante altre notizie sono emerse dal sondaggio compiuto da Legambiente e Irp marketing per tastare il terreno prima di presentare il progetto Olbis (Optimising bike sharing in european cities), ispirato ai principi europei per la mobilità sostenibile.
I successi di partecipazione de Il Giretto d’Italia e del BiciDay delle settimane scorse non fa altro che confermare quanto emerso dal sondaggio di Legambiente e Irp marketing: l’uso delle biciclette è aumentato fortemente nel nostro Paese, per una maggiore sensibilità ambientale, per l’affermazione di uno stile di vita più salutare, ma anche per un maggior risparmio economico. Se nel 2001 solo il 2,9 % degli italiani utilizzava la bicicletta per muoversi in città, oggi è il 9% dei cittadini a servirsi del mezzo ecologico negli spazi urbani. In cifre questa percentuale corrisponde a circa 5 milioni di persone, un numero elevato ma che si può ancora migliorare.
L’indagine ha rivelato che il 75% degli intervistati usa la bicicletta solo in rare occasioni, principalmente nei giorni festivi, forse approfittando delle domeniche ecologiche. L’1% dei ciclisti urbani abituali risiede nel Mezzogiorno o nelle isole mentre la percentuale è pari allo zero nel centro, mentre sale al 23% la percentuale di chi, al centro Italia, prende il mezzo a due ruote solo in rare occasioni. I ciclisti sono per lo più uomini, senza troppe differenze di età. A limitare l’uso della bicicletta vi è soprattutto la mancanza di sicurezza delle strade cittadine, per il 43% del campione, dovuta anche alla mancanza di piste ciclabili adeguate, e per il troppo traffico (42%). Il 19% degli italiani lamenta la mancanza di parcheggi per biciclette e la possibilità di viaggiare in treno e in bus con il mezzo al seguito. Ma come siamo messi con il bike sharing nelle nostre città? Nelle città europee un bike sharing di media efficienza ha circa 15,6 biciclette per ogni 10.000 abitanti, ciò vuol dire che a Milano siamo sotto di circa la metà di mezzi ecologici: il BikeMI ha un parco biciclette di 1.480 unità e ne occorerebbero invece 2.060. A Roma la situazione è ancora più drammatica: solo 365 biciclette per un’utenze che ne richiederbbe almeno 4.404.
