La sede nel Regno Unito dell’Alleanza e la conservazione delle religioni (ARC), in collaborazione con le Nazioni Unite, ha recentemente ospitato 200 rappresentanti di nove grandi religioni del mondo che rappresentano circa 60 diverse organizzazioni religiose. Baha’i, buddisti, cristiani, indù, ebrei, musulmani, scintoisti, taoisti e sikh tutti riuniti a Londra, presso il Castello di Windsor con l’ordine del giorno “Uniti per l’ambiente”.
In un’epoca di crescente divario religioso, un po’ di tempo dedicato all’argomento ambiente è stato in grado di riunire gruppi di antica fede per discutere una soluzione moderna. E con l’Islam in primo piano, con i leader musulmani che hanno dimostrato la capacità di adattarsi e di rispondere alle nuove esigenze, contro ogni previsione.
Ad esempio la religione Orientale ha preso l’eco-impegno per un piano di 7 anni per far diventare, Medina, la seconda città più importante dell’Islam dopo la Mecca, una città verde. Medina, “La città del Profeta”, è un inizio strategico che punta alla capacità di lanciare una campagna ecologica nei territori limitrofi.
Il Piano di 7 anni è stato presentato dallo sceicco Ali Goma’a, Gran Mufti d’Egitto, che ha già introdotto il piano nella sua città di Dar Al Iftaa. Alcune iniziative chiave includono:
- Elaborare e attuare una “Green Hajj”, con 2-3 milioni di persone in visita alla Mecca, le quali trasformeranno l’esperienza in un pellegrinaggio eco-friendly da cui trarranno benefici immediati;
- Costruire una moschea “verde” ed introdurre questo modello per gli altri edifici islamici di tutto il mondo;
- Nella prima fase, sviluppare 2-3 modelli di città verde; nella seconda fase, adattare dieci altre città musulmane a tale modello;
- Il concetto di eco-sensibilizzazione nell’istruzione islamica;
- Pubblicazione del “Corano verde“, stampato su carta prodotta da legno sostenibile;
- Creazione di un canale specializzato TV incentrato su Islam e ambiente;
- Creazione di premi per l’eccellenza in questo settore.
L’obiettivo finale qui, come con i gruppi di altra fede, è quello di ridefinire radicalmente i rapporti tra fede e ambiente. Mentre il movimento ambientalista è ancora visto come un fronte laico da un certo numero di gruppi conservatori, le religioni più antiche del mondo, con un seguito di miliardi di persone, saranno in grado di attirare molta attenzione sul problema.
Tuttavia, nonostante si sposti l’attenzione verso l’eco-sensibilizzazione, il Segretario Generale dell’ARC Martin Palmer precisa la difficoltà nel portare i gruppi islamici a cambiare ciò che sono essenzialmente politiche di Governo. Come afferma Palmer, in sostanza, i gruppi musulmani possono “dire ai Governi islamici come si dovrebbe agire islamicamente”, ma poi, come al solito, le decisioni definitive spettano al Governo stesso.
