Caccia alle balene, l’Australia porta in tribunale il Giappone per fermarla nei mari antartici: la Corte internazionale di Giustizia dell’Aia dà il via alle udienze per la causa intentata contro il Giappone per bandire una volta per tutte la ricerca “scientifica” (le virgolette sono d’obbligo) dei nipponici.
Gli ambientalisti e gli animalisti che seguono gli sviluppi della caccia alle balene ricorderanno come, quest’anno, oltre alle battaglie di Sea Sheperd (che peraltro hanno ottenuto ottimi risultati), anche l’Australia ha preso una posizione molto più decisa nei confronti del Giappone. Ed è così che oggi, non senza un certo piacere, possiamo riportare la notizia dell’inizio delle udienze per la causa intentata dall’Australia, con il supporto della Nuova Zelanda, contro il Giappone.
Il motivo della causa risiede nella violazione della moratoria sulla caccia commerciale stabilita dalla Convenzione internazionale per la regolamentazione della caccia alle balene. La scusa della ricerca scientifica, giudicata ridicola praticamente da ogni parte del mondo, è ora che finisca: se il Giappone viola i regolamenti internazionali deve essere sanzionato.
L’Australia sostiene che oltre 10 mila balene sono state uccise dalla caccia giapponese (che i legali nipponici continuano a sostenere sia “sostenibile” e regolare), e chiederà inoltre la revoca di “ogni autorizzazione, permesso o licenza” per la caccia alle balene nelle acque antartiche da parte del Giappone.
Al mondo, nonostante il divieto di caccia commerciale alle balene, Norvegia e Islanda continuano a cacciarle senza scuse, senza specchi. Il Giappone fa lo stesso (è chiaro e noto a tutti che la carne finisce nei ristoranti, non si tenta nemmeno di occultare il fatto), tuttavia si nasconde dietro il paravento della ricerca scientifica.
Purtroppo è certo che ci vorranno mesi per arrivare a una decisione della Corte dell’Aia, ma data la situazione si può plausibilmente sperare in una esemplare tirata di capelli con conseguente messa in regola per il Giappone.
