Traffico nei cieli, gli aerei sono veloci, sicuri, comodi, ma inquinano.
Finito di straziare la troposfera con gas di scarico di automobili ed esalazioni tossiche dei rifiuti, passiamo ora ad intossicare i piani alti della Terra. Sembra quasi una gara a come avvelenare prima il nostro Pianeta.
Certo non mancano le spinte innovative verso l’uso di biocarburante anche per gli aerei, utilizzando le biomasse. Ma siamo ancora lontani da una sperimentazione talmente intensa e con molti investimenti da trovare una soluzione.
Se guardiamo indietro alla storia della scienza e della tecnologia, capiamo che nulla è impossibile per la mente umana, che riesce a creare cose straordinarie.
Sulle energie pulite poi la strada è già spianata, e mi viene da chiedermi come mai non si acceleri la corsa verso le bioenergie. E invece si va avanti a piccoli passi, forse a causa dei troppi interessi economici che gravitano intorno ai combustibili fossili, al nucleare, e alle industrie ad alta resa di guadagni, e poca attenzione per l’impatto ambientale.
Ma consoliamoci con questi piccoli passi. Ieri, 9 aprile, è stato presentato a Bruxelles, davanti all’Europarlamento, il giro del mondo con un aereo solare.
Lo svizzero Bertrand Piccard ne è allo stesso tempo l’inventore, il promotore ed il pilota, Solar Impulse, il nome del suo progetto, che prevede il tour dell’intero Pianeta da effettuarsi nel 2011.
L’aereo solare destinato all’impresa, ha un’apertura alare di 60 metri ed è ricoperto proprio sulle ali di 200 metri quadrati di pannelli fotovoltaici.
Il volo perpetuo grazie all’energia solare raggiungerebbe i 70 km/orari e l’aereo potrebbe decollare e volare sia di giorno che di notte.
Attualmente si sta lavorando al modello destinato alla sfida di Piccard per potenziarne ulteriormente la velocità. Un piccolo passo, una grande sfida… [via]
